Chloes project in progress, a still from the short film

The view before entering the Parkland walk at the Highgate entrance
in the distance is the city. In between the city and the recreation space, lies Hornsey road bridge known locally as “suicide bridge”. It is the only significant suicide bridge in world to pass over land rather than water. I was on first seeing taken by the lead up to this bridge and daunting concrete framing the road. I am interested in the monotony of the traffic and noise running underneath the bridge yet the underlying sadness of this functional structure and silence around the bridge. I am making a short video piece exploring the landscape surrounding and view from the bridge.

FOREIGN FLORA. by ANEESA

'the cosmopolitan mix of the flora so well reflects the multicultural nature of Haringey itself''

The above quote is the starting point to my work and derives from the information board at the entrance to the Parkland Walk.

'Never can say goodbye' Claire Lawrie

Swings are emotive objects , whether in use or left empty, they are a signifier of childhood and play. Childhood,  a constuct from the Victorian times, is in constant debate today.
Tying together the Victorian age and concepts of childhood i have designed a Praxinoscope that will animate the still images to envoke  feelings of the journey from  child to adult and as a memorial to  children who do not get that chance.

“Shrubs of the Afternoon” by Renke Brandt

During my walks through the woods round Highgate I photograph strange forms in trees and shrubbery. Forms which are unusual and bizarre, but in some way beautiful. It`s a homage to secret places, weird thoughts, and mysterious appearances.

I hope you`ve got the time

I`ve got phantoms and ghosts

Waiting in line”

"Light Life" by Mirjam Klessmann

“Light Life”

On the Parkland Walk I am going to show a magic lantern, the first projector which has been used from the 17th until the 20th century, to project images into the woods onto leaves and trees without using electricity. The Walk is part of the capital ring, where Go10A (Group of 10 Artists) are doing site-specific art by re-imagining the space. The Parkland Walk is a former train track which runs through a narrow valley. Imagining the train running there seems almost mystical, like my device, the magic lantern, is as well with which I will project images of living-room-lamps. Trough the absence of light during the night the nature seems sometimes evil and we have created ourselves a safe surrounding through electric light. Light is one of the most important phenomena in every culture. We live and die with the light and depend on this little switch we turn on as the first thing every night we come home.

At the exhibition in the Bogaloo I would like to present framed photographs of the projected images.

By taking a picture of an image of a light source projected by a lantern I basically show the circle of how photography works as photography is based on light. Light is the photographers medium, and a photograph is the image of a pattern of light recorded on film. The word “photography” means “writing or drawing with light”. Without light there could be no vision or photography because it is light reflected from the world around us that makes things visible to both our eyes and the eye of the camera.
